Nismes woman died of drowning, blunt trauma – PME

A post-mortem examination performed by Pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh on the remains of Leonaka Natasha Johnson revealed that she died as a result of asphyxiation due to drowning, compounded by blunt trauma to the body.

The police in a press release stated that they have a man in their custody assisting with the ongoing investigations.

Stabroek News understands that the police officer the woman was last seen with was questioned extensively and is being placed under close arrest, while the boyfriend remains in police custody.

At around 6 am on Saturday the body of the 20-year-old who was also called ‘Tasha’ of 17 River View, Nismes, was discovered floating in the nearby canal by persons in the area who alerted her relatives. The woman’s relatives said that she was last seen in the company of a policeman last Thursday night. They said that after she did not return home, they became worried as she was not the type to sleep out.

Johnson, they had said, was engaged to be married but was having some minor issues with her fiancé.
