EAB to release elections report before end of week

Domestic elections observer, the Electoral Assistance Bureau (EAB) says that its report on last year’s general and regional elections will be released before the end of the week.

Speaking to Stabroek News yesterday, EAB Chairman Father Malcolm Rodrigues informed that the report was ready but that the organization was awaiting the completion of the work of its proofreader. He added that the report should have been ready sooner, but due to the sudden illness of the proofreader, the deadline for release was once again shifted. “I understand that it should have been ready a long time but because of unforeseen circumstances, we had to wait a bit longer… right now, we are waiting on an email from the proofreader and if she doesn’t respond today, I will send her another tomorrow so that we can get this out of the way,” he said.

On Monday, opposition coalition APNU called on the EAB, to release its findings, in wake of its own verification of Statements of Poll, which it said found misconduct and illegal acts in the holding of the elections, including the abuse of private residences used as polling stations to inflate the votes counted for the PPP/C. As a result of its examination, APNU concluded that there was no reliable basis to determine who won the presidency.  “I think it will be an important report for you to look it to be able to cross-reference what we are saying here,” APNU’s Election Agent Joseph Harmon said of the EAB report.
