Duo remanded over knife-point robbery

Two men, who are accused of a knife-point robbery in the vicinity of Stabroek Market, were remanded to prison yesterday by Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Darrel Junior and Marvin English are accused of robbing Radha Birbahadur in the vicinity of the Stabroek Market on Tuesday after placing a knife to her neck.

It is alleged that the virtual complainant was standing in the vicinity of the Stabroek Market when the two accused placed a knife to her neck and robbed her.  She managed to raise an alarm and then reported the matter to the nearby police outpost. The police then went in pursuit of the men who were eventually caught. However, the articles were not found on them when they were apprehended.

The prosecution objected to bail, stating that the two men are known to the police and are frequently seen in the vicinity of the Stabroek Market where a number of robberies are committed. The matter will continue on March 28.
