Driver fined $25,000 for abusive language

A driver will have to pay a fine of $25,000 or spend two weeks in jail for making use of abusive language to a woman who had rebuked him over his driving.

Steve Dula yesterday pleaded guilty to making use of abusive language against Christine Percival when he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The accused after pleading guilty to the charge  said he had an explanation for his action.

He told the court that he was driving past the virtual complainant (VC) when she told him he was  driving like an ass.

He then became angry and told the girl to “carry her (expletive) home.”

The VC  then reported the matter to the police who subsequently arrested and charged Dula.
