Norton St man remanded over five robbery charges

A man who is facing five indictable charges of robbery, three of which are for robbery under arms,  was remanded to prison yesterday when he appeared before Magistrate Allan Wilson at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Leroy Williams, 21, of 71 Norton Street is accused of robbing five persons between  February 11 and April 2  in Georgetown.

Williams allegedly robbed five persons starting with Dudnauth Sukram on February 11,  when being armed with a gun he stole a BlackBerry Curve phone valued $50,000 and $15,000 in cash.

Then on February 13  he allegedly robbed Steven Sukram  of his cell phone and cash at gunpoint.

On March 19 he allegedly robbed Lascelle Duke of $29,940 in cash and Cecil Stewart of two gold chains valued $130,000 on March 30.

Williams is also charged  with robbing Vanessa Smith on April 2 of one gold chain valued $120,000.

Police Sergeant Gordon Mansfield, prosecuting, objected to bail, citing the seriousness and prevalence of the offences and Williams was refused his pre-trial liberty.

The matter will continue on April 18.
