Mahaica trucker found dead with gash to head

The body of a 32-year-old man was found lying a short distance away from his truck on New Road, Mosquito Hall, East Coast Demerara yesterday morning.

Jadesh ‘Bolo’ Dass, of Chelsea Hall, Mahaica, ECD, was found with a huge gash to the head around 2 am and relatives have ruled out robbery as the motive since the man’s money and other belongings were intact.

His mother, Sookranie Dass, said that he left their home just one hour prior to the gruesome discovery.

“He does drive sand truck and go Soesdyke, so he left home around 1 o’clock to go to work,” the distressed mother recalled. She said shortly after, she was awakened by someone calling at the gate who informed her that the truck, GMM 9952, was spotted on the “new road” but Dass was nowhere to be found.

She said she immediately got dressed and ventured to the location where the truck was and found her son’s motionless body just a few feet away. She noted that his body bore no other injuries except that to the head which she said would have been as a result of a blow with a heavy object.

The body was transported to the Lykens Funeral Parlour where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted today.

Dass’ employer and the owner of the truck, ‘Dutchie’ (only name given) was said to be at the Mahaica Police Station yesterday when this newspaper visited his home. The truck, which is marked ‘RYAN’ at the front, was seen parked in front of the police station.

Police in a press release said that a man has been arrested and is in custody assisting with investigations.
