Woman shot in ankle during North Ruimveldt robbery

A woman was shot in her ankle early yesterday morning during a gunpoint robbery at her North Ruimveldt squatting area home.

Police said in a press release that around 0005 hrs gold miner James Williams, 33, and Precious Hunte were at their home when they were awakened by noise in the house.

On checking they were confronted by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun and who discharged a round which struck Hunte to her left ankle. The perpetrators, according to the release, then took a bag containing $400,000 and escaped.

Hunte has been admitted a patient of the Georgetown Hospital.
