Private sector supports USAID project for at-risk youth

The Private Sector Commis-sion (PSC) on Monday met with representatives of Real Development Solutions, which is conducting a labour market assessment aimed at equipping 800 at-risk youth with skills to enter the work force.

The overall objectives of the USAID Skills and Knowledge for Youth Employment project (SKYE) is to reduce youth crime and violence in Guyana by strengthening economic participation and civic engagement, a press release from the PSC said.

A labour market assessment is being conducted in regions Four, Six, Nine and Ten to determine the skills needed in order to inform the training aspect of the project.

The PSC endorses this initiative and believes that it could make a real difference to both vulnerable youth and the communities in which they are resident.

Therefore, it urges all selected businesses to support the effort to gather data on the labour needs of their organisations.

The project is being executed through the Educational Development Centre, a US-based education and youth development institution, the PSC said.
