Nurse accused of assault put on peace bond

Two nurses were yesterday put on a bond to keep the peace after one of them was charged with assaulting the other.

Nurse Althea Phillips appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on a charge of unlawfully assaulting Merasa Allen.

Philips pleaded not guilty to unlawfully assaulting Allen to cause her actual bodily harm.

It was alleged that the offence was committed on April 20, 2012 at Brickdam.

The court heard from Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey that as a result of a misunderstanding, Phillips picked up a brick and threw it at Allen, hitting her in the back.

Phillips said that she never hit Allen and had witnesses to verify her claim. She also accused Allen of constantly slandering her.

The women were subsequently placed on a bond to keep the peace and told to return to court on May 2, 2012.
