Cop offers no evidence against colleague accused of stealing BlackBerry

A police officer accused of stealing a BlackBerry Curve cell phone from his colleague had his simple larceny case dismissed in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday by Magistrate Judy Latchman after the virtual complainant declined to offer any evidence.
Richard Williams of the Guyana Police Force is alleged to have stolen one BlackBerry Curve cell phone, property of fellow police officer Glen McLean between September 26 and 27, 2011 at the Felix Austin Police College.

His attorney Patrice Henry made an application for bail on his behalf and said further that the incident occurred while the two officers were in training school. The attorney also noted that his client has an unblemished record.

Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton who initially read the charge placed Williams on $50,000 bail and then sent him to Court Three for report and fixture.

When Williams stood before Magistrate Latchman in Court Three the matter was dismissed as McLean did not wish to offer any evidence against his colleague.
