GDF cadets win scholarships to elite US academies

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) says two cadets have won full scholarships to two of the most prestigious military academies in the USA.

In a press release, the GDF said Errol Van Lange will be a cadet at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York and Czedra Frank will be a Midshipman at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

“These academies only accept 15 international students each year and have had a number of distinguished graduates, including six Heads of State, two Nobel Peace awardees, 116 Rhodes Scholars, and many Ambassadors and Generals. Both Van Lange and Frank will be studying engineering while they are in school,” the army said.

According to the release family members proudly watched as their sons were honoured by US Ambassador D Brent Hardt. GDF Colonel Bruce Lovell also addressed cadets, noting that once their education is completed, they will return and continue their honourable service to Guyana.

Van Lange and Frank follow other accomplished candidates from the GDF who have participated in personal and professional development in the United States under continuing partnership programmes.

In their address, both cadets thanked the GDF and the United States for the opportunity to study and committed to applying what they learn at these elite academies in service to their country on their return to Guyana.
