Four years in jail for unlicensed pistol and ammo

Rodwell Joseph pleaded guilty and offered an explanation to the two charges of having a gun and ammunition in his possession without the requisite licence.

The prosecution stated that the police received information on Sunday that Joseph was on a motorcycle threatening persons in East La Penitence.

The police proceeded to the location and upon arriving at the scene they confronted the man.

A search was subsequently conducted on the person of Joseph and  the weapon and ammunition were found in his waist. Joseph was then asked if he had a licence and he said no. He was later arrested and charged.

After pleading guilty, the magistrate then allowed Joseph to tell his side of the story. He said that the gun and ammunition were not found on him but was on the ground, and that he had the gun for his protection and not to harm anyone.

He also asked the court to be lenient with him since he has a sick mother and a pregnant girlfriend.

After taking the mitigating factors presented by the man into consideration, the magistrate sentenced him to four years in prison on  each charge but the charges will run concurrently.

Joseph will have to spend four years incarcerated. He was also fined $100, 000 on each charge.
