‘Mr Guyanese’ accused of assault, threats

Local media personality Malcolm Ferreira, known as “Mr. Guyanese,” was yesterday charged threatening and assaulting his wife.

Ferreira appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton and the court heard that on May 30, 2012, at Sussex Street, Charlestown, he unlawfully assaulted his wife Sheranne Issacs and also made use of threatening language to her.

Ferreira pleaded not guilty to the two charges. He was unrepresented but an application for bail.

Police Prosecutor Corporal Simone Payne had no objection to bail but asked that Ferreira and his wife have an undertaking to have nothing to do with each other during the proceedings. Ferreira then asked if that meant he could not kiss his wife and he was advised by the magistrate that that would not be in his best interest. Bail was fixed at $15,000 and case was adjourned to June 11, 2012, when it is to be called in Court 10.
