Neighbours on wounding and assault charges after fracas

Sandy Freeman and Derek Norton who are neighbours appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday following a fracas that reportedly involved wounding and assault and were granted bail by Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton.

Freeman who is facing an indictable charge of unlawful wounding is alleged to have unlawfully and maliciously wounded Norton on May 29 at St. Stephens Street, Charlestown.

However a cross-charge  stated that on May 29 at St Stephens Street, Charlestown, Norton unlawfully assaulted  Freeman.

The court was told by the defendants that they are neighbours at the said address, and  one of them lives at the back house and the other in front.

Norton who the magistrate said is no stranger to the court also made an application for bail and Freeman also requested pretrial liberty.

Police Prosecutor Corporal Simone Payne did not oppose the bail applications but asked that the duo give an undertaking to have nothing to do with each other during the court proceedings since they are neighbours. Both men agreed to this condition.

Norton was granted $10,000 bail while Freeman was  placed on $40,000 bail. Both men were told to return to court on July 10 in Court 10.
