Man doused with ‘acid’ after row over news report

The family of Ade Doobay is claiming that he was doused with ‘acid’ as a result of a row between him and another man over an article appearing in several daily newspapers.

“The man tell he that you is the bad man in the papers, now leh me show you who is the bad man and then he throw the acid in me son face,” Doobay’s father related while threatening legal action if an apology is not issued to the family.

According to reports, Doobay, 28, was doused with a corrosive substance sometime after 8 pm Wednesday night.

This newspaper was told that he suffered burns to his face and as a result he is now a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).

Doobay’s father said that the incident had its genesis in his son’s name being mentioned in several newspaper articles on Wednesday, in wake of the fatal shooting of Odel Chase.

Chase was shot dead by police on Monday evening after they responded to a report of a robbery.

In 2009, Chase and Doobay were remanded to prison on a joint charge that they shot Samantha Hollingsworth during a robbery in the Botanical Gardens.

However, Doobay’s father stated that the matter was dismissed in 2009 and both Chase and his son were freed. As a result, he said the mention of his son’s name in the newspaper taints his son’s reputation as well as his family by extension.
