Two charged over Albion armed robbery

Two men appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo at the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ Court charged with five counts of armed robbery over the Doctor Bush robbery at Albion last week.

Ray Anthony Lester and Avinash Dowananan called Bob were not required to plead to the indictable charges. They were remanded to prison, but are back in court today for bail review and report and fixture.

Lester, 19, of Hampshire Squatting Area and Dowananan, 18, of Belvedere Squatting Area, both Corentyne locations are accused of robbing a family while armed with a gun and a knife.

According to the charges, the men robbed Devendra Ramdloy of a Brazilian gold chain valued $20,000; Doodnarine Mohan of three gold chains, three gold rings, a gold hand band, and cash totalling $295,000; Michael Ramnarine of a Brazilian gold chain valued $30,000; Alvin Jagroo of a Nokia cellular phone, a pair of silver earrings and a Puma wrist watch totalling $25,500; they also robbed Mahesh Prashad of a silver ring valued $7,000.

According to reports it was just after 20:00 hrs when the men pounced on the family, demanding valuables, whilst inflicting injury on Mohan, who was subsequently treated at the New Amsterdam Hospital for a fractured left arm.
