A Guyanese delegation will travel to Boa Vista, Brazil for the First Tourism Meeting of Brazil, Guyana and Venezuela, on June 28.
The meeting is being hosted by the Boa Vista, Roraima Convention and Visitors Bureau, in collaboration with the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) and in partnership with the Government of Guyana and the State of Roraima, a press release from THAG said.
President and Director of THAG, Paul Stephenson and Colin Edwards, respectively, along with Magno Silva, of Roraima Adventures, initiated the meeting, which is the first of its kind.
On the agenda for discussion will be security, customs, passport and visas, border transit vehicles to transport tourists and tourism activities in indigenous communities. After the meeting, tourism operators from the three participating nations will partake in a business roundtable.
The release said the participants will aim to develop a work programme that will seek to accomplish the activities that will be discussed at the second meeting of the three nations.
It added that the meeting will serve as an opportunity for each country to promote their tourism products in the regional market, and to promote the region to foreign markets.
Among those expected to attend the meeting are the Governor of the State of Roraima Jose Anchieta Junior.
Guyana’s delegation will be led by acting Minister of Tourism Irfaan Ali and will also include acting President of THAG Daniel Gajie and Directors Kit Nascimento, Edwards and Sydney Allicock. Executive Director of THAG Treina Butts, Director of the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) Indranauth Haralsingh, other members of THAG, staff of the Tourism Ministry and the GTA will also attend.
Guyana’s participants will be selected from the public and private sector interests in the tourism, local aviation and business sector. The organisations that will be participating include the GTA, Wilderness Explorers, North Rupununi District Development Board, Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry, Iwokrama and the Rupununi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
There will be 19 representatives of the Bolivar Tourism Association comprising tour operators and accommodation service providers.
