Woman remanded over dousing wayward daughter with hot water

A woman, who allegedly doused her wayward 12-year-old daughter with a pot of boiling water, was yesterday remanded to prison when she appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Whim Court.

The 34-year-old housewife and mother of two of Port Mourant, Corentyne, was not required to plead to the indictable charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm.

The court was told that on June 21, the child was sent to the shop by her mother, but instead of returning home, she went elsewhere. She was later found hiding at a friend’s house.

She was taken home, where her mother allegedly poured boiling water on her resulting in burns to her left arm and back.

The matter was reported to the police, who subsequently instituted the charge.

Meanwhile, the defendant, addressing the court said, “dis girl, don’t hear. She get her own way”.

The woman is due back in court on July 9.
