Indian science exhibition due here next month

The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and the National Council of Sciences Museum of India (NCSM) yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understand-ing to facilitate a science exhibition in Guyana.

The exhibition, which will be held from August 15 to September 30, at the National Sports Hall, is expected to feature over 1,000 exhibits from India and Guyana. Exhibits in the areas of Mathematics, Culture and Science will be on display. Workshops will also be held for teachers and persons who will be participating in the event which, according to Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr Frank Anthony, is aimed at youths and students, primarily.

Alfred King, Permanent Secretary of the Culture Ministry, said that it is significant to bring the exhibition, which is currently in Trinidad, to Guyana because in addition to strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, it can also assist in transforming our society and economy.

Meanwhile, First Secretary of the High Commission of India Tirath Singh mentioned that the event will showcase India’s contribution in the area of science on a broad spectrum.

Minister Anthony said he hopes the event helps to improve the understanding of science by young persons, in particular, while adding that the ministry will seek to engage students and other young minds by having science quizzes while the event is being held.

minister also said that local entities such as the Ministry of Education, Learning Channel, University of Guyana and the Institute of Applied Science and Technology (IAST) will be part of the hosting of the exhibition.
