Ramotar says plans to meet Ramkarran soon
President Donald Ramotar has not yet met with former PPP executive, Ralph Ramkarran on his resignation from the party but plans to do so soon.
“I haven’t seen him as yet but I plan to make contact with him shortly,” the president told reporters at the International Conference Centre this morning following the opening of the Heads of Foreign Missions conference. He reiterated that he would like the former Speaker of the National Assembly to reconcile with the party.
Ramkarran, whose family has long been associated with the party and is seen as one of its most credible figures, tendered his resignation after the fallout from a recent column he authored in the Mirror newspaper, in which he said that corruption was pervasive and the government needed to do something about it.
Ramotar recalled his earlier statement in which he said that he did not think that there were any fundamental differences between Ramkarran and the party. “We all recognise that Ralph has made an enormous contribution to our party, to the struggle in our country and I’m sure we would like him to return to the party,” he said.
