Armed bandits rob Rose Hall businessman of $1M in jewellery

A well-known Rose Hall Town businessman was on Wednesday night robbed of three gold chains and three finger rings valued at some $1 million, by two armed bandits.

Peter Hicks, owner of Peter’s Motor Spares and Auto Sales, said that it was just after 8 pm on Wednesday that he encountered the armed bandits, who were hiding behind a bus that was parked in his yard.

Hicks said he was chasing after a stray dog. “The dog run and go next to de bus and I noticed someone standing at the side of de bus and I realize is bandits,” he said.

Before he could react, Hicks said, the bandits rushed up to him and stuck him up with a handgun.

He said they demanded cash and jewellery and both of the bandits started to strip him of his jewellery.

They then forced him to lie on the ground and continued to demand cash but he insisted that he did not have any to give them.

While, apparently satisfied with the jewellery, the bandits went away.

After the ordeal he and some friends went to the police station and made a report.

Subsequently, one person was arrested and taken into custody. Hicks said the person in police custody was a suspect.

He noted that this is the first time he had been robbed. He was not injured during the robbery.
