Ronald Webster leads initial voting to head PSC

In preliminary voting, the corporate membership of the Private Sector Commission (PSC) has overwhelmingly supported Managing Director of Caribbean Containers Incorporated Ronald Webster for the chairmanship of the body.

The move to elect a new Chairman comes in the wake of the fallout involving ex- Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company CEO Yog Mahadeo, who resigned from the chairmanship of the PSC, after he stepped down from the telecoms company when external auditors advised him of a “lapse of internal control” that occurred under his watch.

Speaking to this newspaper yesterday, immediate past Chairman of the PSC Ramesh Dookhoo said that this was the result of a meeting on Monday to address the replacement of the Chairman.

“Ron won the corporate vote. Tomorrow [today] five corporate members plus 16 sectoral members will vote,” said Dookhoo. He added that the meeting, during which the voting will take place, will be held today. According to Dookhoo, Webster received 11 corporate votes to Beni Sankar’s seven. Two corporate voters abstained.

Mahadeo on July 6 tendered his resignation to the PSC, citing his resignation from the GT&T.
