Newly-elected PNCR Leader David Granger says there is much work ahead for the party and he has lauded outgoing leader Robert Corbin.
Counting of votes for the leadership post did not conclude until early this morning and Granger won by big margin over his closest rival, former Finance Minister, Carl Greenidge.
A PNCR statement this morning said that the election of Leader, Chairman, Vice Chairpersons, Treasurer and members of the Central Executive Committee for the next biennium was conducted under the supervision of the Returning Officer, Michael Somersall and other members of his team.
It said the official results declared by Somersall were as follows:
Leader: Brigadier David Granger
Chairman: Basil Williams, MP
Vice Chairpersons: Volda Lawrence, MP and Dr. George Norton, MP
Treasurer: Ronald Bulkan, MP
The results for the Central Executive will be declared later.
The release said that after the results were declared Granger made reference to Ecclesiastes 3 of the Holy Bible, “A time for everything…” The release said he told the delegates “that this is a time for building and a time for embracing.” He added that there was much work to be done.
He thanked Corbin for his years of stewardship as Party Leader, for deciding not to run as the Presidential Candidate in the last elections, for initiating primaries for the selection of the presidential candidate for 2011 and for the formation of APNU.
Further, he stated that as a result of Corbin’s work, “we now have the Chairmanship of APNU, the Leader of the Opposition and now the Leader of the PNCR.”
Granger thanked all those who worked to make the Congress a success and invited Greenidge to join him in efforts to strengthen the unity of the party, the release said.
