Granger calls for massive membership drive… at Vreed-en-Hoop party meeting

Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform, David Granger visited Vreed-en-Hoop on Tuesday evening to discuss the way forward with party members, in keeping with his declaration of a 10-point plan.
The PNCR in a press release yesterday said that

Granger called on members to embark on a massive membership drive to strengthen the party and to broaden its base.

He identified the Guyana Youth and Student Movement (GYSM) and the National Congress of Women (NCW) for rebuilding and a resurgence of activism and called for a return of party pride and for party members

not to allow the skewed views of others to make them ashamed to speak of the many accomplishments of the PNC in Government.

Granger said that under his leadership internal party democracy will be paramount and he charged party members with mobilizing and registering for local government elections in order to take control of local democratic organs.

Dubbing his presentation the “Declaration of Vreed-en-Hoop,” Brigadier (ret’d) Granger promulgated a 10-point plan to move the PNCR forward.

He said that the plan had evolved from his interactions with party members and as such came from the aspirations of the people he had been meeting over the last two years, the release stated.

Also in the 10-point plan was rebuilding public services and institutionalizing “inclusive democracy” as a tenet of the PNCR.
Granger said that under his leadership the party will continue to build bridges to other communities. He said, “we must be able to sit down as Guyanese, putting aside ethnic labels.”

He emphasized also the importance of rebuilding the PNCR’s historic relationships with trade unions, ensuring fundamental rights for all and reforming relations in the National Assembly.

The PNCR Leader told members that the party’s policy was to find ways to increase wealth not to recycle poverty. He called on the party to think about enterprises saying, “you have to become businessmen and women, you have to produce, you have to be educated and ensure that your children are educated so that they could find gainful employment…”

Granger also conveyed his gratitude to party members in the Essequibo Islands-West Demerara Region 3 for their strong support for the party’s campaign.

The release said also that newly-elected Party Chair-man, Basil Williams called for a unified PNCR to provide leadership to A Partnership for National Unity (APNU). Williams told the gathering that it was time for the PNCR to consolidate and prepare to be the next Government of Guyana.

Granger was accompanied by Party Chairman Basil Williams, Party Regional Chairman John Adams, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Deborah Backer, Joseph Harmon, and several members of the Regional Democratic Council, the release added.
