Dredge owner charged with stealing ATV

A dredge owner was yesterday put on $450,000 bail after he denied the theft of an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV).

The accused, Quacy Benjamin, called ‘Rambo,’ 27, was charged with stealing the $3.3M vehicle from Lyndon Nurse, and he pleaded not guilty to the offence when he appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It was alleged that during the period of June 10 to June 11, Benjamin stole the vehicle in Essequibo.

His lawyer, Trenton Lake, stated that Benjamin has a fixed address in the Port Kaituma region and is a dredge owner. He added that he has a wife and four children and had no pending matters in the court system, and therefore he requested reasonable bail.

Prosecutor Simone Payne had no objections to bail and bail was set at $450,000 bail.

The case was then transferred to Court 1 for September 25, for reports and fixtures.
