Future seems bleak for Bath Settlement man with eye problems

The future seems bleak for a 31-year-old father of Bath Settlement Scheme, West Coast Berbice who is blind in the left eye and has developed a problem in the right.

Dinbandu Persaud told Stabroek News that he started suffering from blurred vision and after conducting tests, the doctors discovered that the “retina was detached from his eye.”

He said the problem started about six weeks ago and if it is not corrected within months he can go completely blind.

Persaud has to undergo a “vitreo-retinal review of the right eye” and possible surgery in Trinidad at a cost of US$6,000.

That would give him a chance to continue working on his eschallot farm to maintain his wife, Mala Singh, 25, and their children; Karishma, 3, and one-year-old Rajiv.

The young father has many dreams, one of which is to ‘see’ his children grow up. But he is not sure if that could happen because he is struggling with life and is finding it difficult to come up with all of the money.

A few persons have made monetary contributions so far while the Ministry of Health has also promised to provide some of the money but it is far from enough.

Persons who wish to assist Persaud can contact him on telephone: 602-5106.
