Cane Grove woman sets self afire

A 40-year old Cane Grove, Mahaica woman yesterday morning set herself on fire during an argument with her husband.

According to reports, Rohanie Ramsood of Saywah Housing Scheme, Cane Grove, Mahaica, was in the upper flat of her home when her husband  noticed smoke emanating from that section of their home.

The man ran upstairs and discovered his wife engulfed in flames and immediately threw several buckets of water on his wife as she cried out for assistance. He immediately rushed the woman to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).

The incident occurred around 6:30 yesterday morning and the couple was alone at home when the incident occurred. The couple’s teenage children live overseas.

Relatives told this newspaper at the GPH yesterday afternoon that Ramsood’s condition was critical but stable, noting that she was able to speak to them.

They said the woman would not relate why she set herself alight but relatives noted that the family had been arguing over an incident which occurred several days ago.
