Garbage collection slowed in some city wards

The Mayor and City Council (M&CC) said some of its garbage trucks have mechanical problems and so there has been a pileup of trash in some city wards.

In a press release, City Hall said over the last few days it has picked up over 50 tonnes of garbage from parapets and roadsides.

However, the council said that regrettably its in-house collection “has been delayed due to mechanical challenges with its trucks.” As a result, collection has slowed in certain areas, including Queenstown, Alberttown, South Cummingsburg, North Cummingsburg, Kingston, Woolford Avenue, Carifesta Avenue and Thomas Land Road.

The council said it is aware that this delay is causing citizens inconvenience but its officers are doing their best in the current circumstances, and are “doing everything practicable” to fix its trucks to provide collection for those affected areas.”
