Fire guts Trinity St home, damages another

An early morning fire on Thursday gutted a home occupied by a brother and sister and severely scorched another.

Stabroek News understands that the Trinity Street home was occupied by Jennifer Vasconcellos, 67, and Eman Vaconcellos, 52.

A prayer candle is believed to have started the fire.

The remains of the building

An eyewitness who resides in the badly scorched house told Stabroek News that her sister was in the bathroom and started to smell smoke and so she called out to her. When she looked out of the window, she saw smoke gushing from creases in the wooden house.  The eyewitness added that they tried to save whatever documents they could and quickly exited their house.

She added that by the time the fire service responded the house was already engulfed in flames. The fire service then tried to save the houses nearby.
