City Council working to resume regular cleaning regime

The City Council said on Wednesday that it will be continuing its current clean-up exercise in collaboration with the business community until all wards in Georgetown are cleared so that the regular cleaning regime can be resumed.

Several wards in George-town were cleared of dump heaps and residential areas were rid of garbage in a massive clean-up exercise last weekend  by the Georgetown City Council  in collaboration with the business community.

The City Council said in a press release that between August 24 and 25, 27 loads  of garbage were removed from Robbstown, Newtown, Bourda, Werk-en-Rust, Lacytown, Lamaha Park and Lamaha Springs. In addition, garbage was removed from areas in close proximity to the Blind Institute.

On Wednesday, Kingston, Queenstown, West La Penitence, Costello Housing Scheme, Middle Road and Independence Boulevard are scheduled for clearance.

Other areas targeted for cleaning on Thursday and Friday are South and North Cummingsburg and East La Penitence.

Meanwhile, the council is pleading with citizens to desist from the “unfriendly” attitude of dumping.
