Man’s lung punctured in broken bottle stabbing

A man’s left lung was punctured after he was stabbed with a broken bottle last night, as a result of being accused of fondling a woman.

Wounded is Navendra Persaud, 22, of Sisters Village, West Bank Demerara, who was stabbed by a man who accused him of touching his sister in the genital area. He was up to press time receiving treatment for his injuries at the Georgetown Hospital.

Persaud’s wife stated that her husband left their home to go to a nearby shop in the area to have a few drinks and the attack occurred around 8:30pm. She said she was at home when she received a call that her husband was stabbed.

She told this newspaper some persons who were at the shop where the incident occurred brought her wounded husband home, since she could not leave to investigate because she was taking care of their only child, who is a baby.

Persaud’s wife added that she learnt from the men who were at the shop that her husband was on his way home when he passed the accused and his sister walking on the road. She added that the man then accused her husband as he was passing of touching his sister.

She said the men told her that her husband was explaining to his assailant that he did not do anything of the sort, but the man broke a bottle and dealt him a stab. Persaud was then picked up and rushed home, after which his wife took him to the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH). He was later transferred to the Georgetown Hospital last night for further medical treatment.
