Sophia teen remanded over laptop theft

A week after being granted bail on a robbery charge, a Sophia teen was yesterday again before the court.

Franklin Wilson, 17, of Lot 282 South Sophia, was refused bail and further remanded on a simple larceny charge when he appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that on August 28, in Georgetown, Wilson stole an Acer laptop, an HTC Phone and cash, valuing $421,000 in total. The items were the property of Kurtis McKenzie.

Wilson pleaded not guilty and when given the opportunity to speak, he stated that he assisted McKenzie in finding the person who took the valuables but McKenzie accused him of stealing the items.

The father of the accused stated that McKenzie had retrieved his laptop and cellular phone and some of the cash which was stolen.

However, the magistrate denied bail after the prosecutor stated that the police’s account of what happened contradicted Wilson’s statement. The court heard that the stolen articles were found in Wilson’s home.

Wilson will make his next court appearance on October 8 in Court One.

Last Monday, Wilson was charged with joining with another in the alleged robbery of a man. He was charged with aggravated robbery and placed on $60,000 bail in that case.
