Pomeroon River residents benefit from medical outreach

The Ministry of Health says 673 residents benefited from a medical outreach exercise and dental services via dental boat Lady Janet, organised by the Suddie Public Hospital last week to serve districts in Wakapoa, Pomeroon River.

Residents from communities such as Mora, Waipaquia and Yarashemia benefited from a range of health services, including dental, audiology, low vision, laboratory, pharmacy and HIV counselling and testing.

The outreach programme was organised by personnel from the Suddie Public Hospital in Region Two,

A Government Information Agency (GINA) press release said of the 673 patients who took advantage of the outreach, 104 persons were treated for eye problems; 127 accessed dental care; 128 had audiology related issues, while 213 persons sought general outpatient services and medicinal supplies. Eighty patients accessed laboratory services and 21 persons sought HIV testing and counselling. The medical team included acting Medical Superintendent, Dr Bob Ramnauth; Medical Outreach Co-coordinator/Pharmacist, Kumar Dass and Medical Records Supervisor, Shanta Springer.

The ministry plans to continue outreaches in different areas of the Pomeroon River using the services of the Lady Janet to better serve residents of riverain communities.
