Rifles, grenades found in raid at Lethem house

Automatic rifles and shrapnel grenades were found at a house at Tabatinga, Lethem yesterday, and two persons have since been held in connection with the discovery.

The weapons were found during a search at around 3 pm at the house along with radio sets and camouflage material, police said.

They were four automatic rifles (type yet to be confirmed) along with four magazines and 389 rounds 7.62×39 calibre ammunition; six M-16 rifles along with two magazines and 74 matching rounds; two shrapnel hand grenades; one Icon VHF radio set; one Icon hand-held radio set; and one roll of camouflage material.

“A man and a woman have been arrested and are in police custody assisting with the investigations,” police force spokesman Ivelaw Whittaker said in the brief statement on the discovery.
