Woman beaten in Nigg home invasion discharged

-shot husband to undergo another surgery

Days after being severely beaten by bandits, Tangamah Madramootoo, 52, was discharged from the New Amsterdam Hospital yesterday and she remains shaken by the horrific ordeal.

Her husband, Samnarine Samaroo, 47, who was shot in the attack at their Nigg Squatting Area home on Saturday, is still under care at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).

Madramootoo’s daughter, Babita (only name given) told Stabroek News yesterday that her mother is having flashbacks about the robbery, which occurred around 11pm. She sustained a large gash on her head, a broken hand and a swollen throat from the blows she received and although she was discharged from the New Amsterdam Hospital, she has been referred to seek medical attention from the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Meanwhile, Samaroo, she added, is in a dire condition at the hospital as he needs blood. Babita said that they had to seek the needed 4 pints of blood and even had to purchase some of it for Samaroo because the blood bank did not have any available. Samaroo is expected to undergo another surgery on Thursday.

Babita added that police officers requested that her mother visit the police station so that an ID parade can be done but Madramootoo was unable to do so since she was away in Georgetown.

The family told Stabroek News that the Nigg area has always been quiet, but with the robbery people are now afraid.

Police had said that four men, armed with two firearms and two knives, broke through the door and entered the couple’s home and robbed them of an undisclosed sum of cash and a quantity of jewellery and escaped.

The police said that during the robbery, Samaroo was shot and injured to his left thigh and Madramootoo was assaulted about her body.
