Georgetown Chamber: Police must review training protocol

The  Ministry of Home Affairs and the Guyana Police Force must reassess the GPF’s training and management protocol as there have been too many incidents where ranks have used excessive and lethal force against innocent citizens.

In a press release, the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry noted that the death of Dameon Belgrave by a stray bullet from police gunfire on October 5 comes quickly on the heels of the killing of Shaquille Grant on September 11.

“These incidences suggest that there is a procedural breakdown in the management of the Guyana Police Force, which has led to a nonchalant culture of using deadly force on citizens,” the Chamber said. As such, the ministry and the GPF must review the training protocol to instil in ranks the responsibility of executing their duties with absolute professionalism.
