Gov’t launches safe parks initiative

The Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment, in collaboration with the Guyana Police Force and the National Parks Commission, has launched the `Operation Safe Parks’ initiative.

A release from the ministry yesterday said that this initiative is designed to boost security at the Botanical Gardens and the National Park, in response to a surge in robberies in these areas.

The Operation will lead to a heightened police presence in both locations, along with random police patrols, and the hiring of additional security guards, the ministry said. It added that the ministry through the National Parks Commission is working to implement a long-term security strategy that will focus on all of the areas under its control, including the Guyana Zoo.
