Epileptic woman found dead in drain after turned away from house

A twenty-one-year-old epileptic woman was found dead in a drain in front of her relative’s East Ruimveldt home after her family refused to accept her in the house yesterday morning.

The dead woman was identified as Odessa Fraser, who is a mother of one and previously resided in Albouystown with her boyfriend. Her body was discovered with her head in the drain by neighbours who alerted the police.

When this newspaper visited the scene, Fraser’s belongings were still in her relative’s yard while a handbag and a pair of slippers were seen next to the gutter where she was found. Her relatives refused to comment on her death when Stabroek News approached them.

Residents in the community stated that the woman’s relatives turned her away after she attempted to move back into the house after her boyfriend in Albouystown had put her out.

Neighbours stated that the woman used to reside with her aunt and other relatives in East Ruimveldt but subsequently went to live with her boyfriend after they put her out of the house. They added that it appears that her boyfriend put her out as well and she was returning to her aunt’s home with her things when they refused to take her in.

The woman’s neighbours also said that after her relatives refused to take her in she was standing at the gate and had a seizure. It is unclear why no one attempted to rescue the woman.

The persons residing at the house where the incident occurred were taken into police custody but were released yesterday afternoon.

The police are conducting further investigations into the matter.
