Special needs building for Ptolemy Reid centre

A contract valued $50.19M for special needs building in the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre, to augment its services for persons with disabilities, has received Cabinet’s no-objection.

The Government Information Agency (GINA) said the centre currently boasts three classrooms and accommodates about 40 students. The new building is expected to accommodate 60 students.

The design of the new building will address mobility issues that pose a challenge at the Centre. Currently the students have to wheel themselves or are carried by porters to their learning spaces in the three-storey building.

“The new, flat building will be outfitted with the necessary ramps, have a computer room and most importantly, the necessary facilities, thereby allowing the students to be more independent and safe,” GINA said.
