GPHC nurses keep up protest over morphine dismissals

Dozens of nurses yesterday continued to protest for two of their colleagues to be reinstated after they were dismissed by the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) in an investigation over missing morphine and they are currently on a go-slow.

The nurses were sacked on Monday following an investigation carried out by the administration of the GPHC. Nurses’ Representative of the Guyana Public Service Union, Kemton Alexander told Stabroek News yesterday that he tried to contact the administration but was unsuccessful and is to send a letter to them.

“We are distressed by their insensitivity,” one nurse said, arguing that they were being treated unjustly and are forced to work under difficult conditions because there are limited resources provided at the hospital.

Another nurse recommended that customer service seminars should be extended to the administration because they are deficient in their communication with the junior staff.

Stabroek News again tried to contact the Human Resources Manager of the hospital yesterday without luck. The hospital has not issued a statement on the matter.

Alexander said that they will continue to protest until they receive justice. “We are on a go-slow,” he stated.
