Agricola shooting victim accused of armed robbery

Romel Bollers, who had been wounded by police in the operation in Agricola where teenager Shaquille Grant was killed, was last Friday released on $100,000 by Magistrate Leslie Sobers at the Providence Magistrate’s Court, where he was charged with armed robbery.

It has been alleged that on December 3, in Bagotstown, Bollers, 19, used an ice pick to rob Amrita Bacchus of two cellular phones, which were valued $100,000.

The prosecution’s case is that at about 3pm on the day of the robbery, Khan was walking along the Bagotstown Public Road when Bollers approached her with an ice pick and demanded the phones.

After the robbery, the prosecution contends, Khan made a report and the accused was then later arrested and charged.

There were no objections to bail, which was granted and the case was adjourned until December 28, when it will be called at the Providence Magistrate’s Court.

Grant, 17, of Lot 72 ‘BB’ Eccles, East Bank Demerara, was fatally shot during a police operation at Third Street, Agricola, where Bollers, 19, was also shot by police, who had initially claimed they came under fire despite differing accounts by residents. One policeman, Constable Terrence Wallace, has since been charged with the murder, while arrest warrants have been issued for two others. Bollers was one of the witnesses in the ongoing Preliminary Inquiry into the murder charge against Wallace. (See other story on this page)
