Charlestown woman on abusive language charge

Charlestown resident Sasha Peter was placed on self bail on Monday after she denied using abusive language to a woman.

Peter 41, of 31 Lyng Street, Charlestown pleaded not guilty when she appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine- Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Her lawyer, attorney George Thomas, asked for bail in a reasonable sum, saying she is the mother of two, unemployed and had no previous convictions.

The prosecutor had no objections to bail but informed the court that the accused was brought before the court sometime last year for a similar offence.

Peter was placed on self bail and put on a bond to keep the peace pending the determination of the case, which was adjourned until January 18, 2013.
