Flooded Parika Health Centre offering care from passageway

After turning residents away over the last 12 days due to flooding, the Parika Health Centre is now offering its services from the passageway of the facility.

Previously, residents were turned away from the centre, which has been flooded with polluted water.
The flooding is believed to have been caused by poor drainage facilities, which saw nurses being forced to work under unsanitary conditions that endangered their health. Nurses subsequently complained about skin infections.

“The condition ain’t sanitary,” a source at the facility told this newspaper. “The thing is we contacted the NDC and they ain’t come as yet to look after it,” the woman added.

When Stabroek News spoke to the Assistant Overseer, Shamit John, of the Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC), she said that was unaware of the issue and that only the Chairman of the NDC could release any statement about the situation. However, all efforts made to contact Jaideo Sookhoo, the Chairman of the NDC, were unsuccessful.
