Husband and wife on assault charges, to undergo counselling

A husband and wife were yesterday ordered to undergo counselling when they appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on charges of assaulting each other.

Mark and Eugene Hercules were released on self bail after they both pleaded not guilty to the charges read to them by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry in Court 1.

Police Prosecutor Venetta Pindar said that on October 11, both husband and wife got into a misunderstanding about securing a job for a neighbour. Mark Hercules then allegedly assaulted his wife and she later allegedly assaulted him.

Attorney-at-law Paul Fung-a-Fat, who represented the husband and wife, explained that his clients has been married for a short time and he asked that they be sent to counselling.

The magistrate subsequently referred them to Help and Shelter for counselling and they were released on their own recognisances after the prosecution offered no objections to bail.
They are due to appear again in Court 1 on January 8, 2013.
