Special constable accidentally shoots self

Special Constable Lorna Andrews, who accidently shot herself in the thigh at the Ministry of Home Affairs compound, was yesterday discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Andrews, 52, was a patient in the hospital’s Female Surgical Ward, after the accidental shooting occurred on Monday.

An eyewitness related to Stabroek News that about 12:20pm on Monday, Andrews was just about to collect a gun from another colleague, when it was dropped accidently and a round was fired off that hit Andrews in the right thigh.

The source stated that after the shot was fired, many workers and persons in the ministry quickly ran out of the building and discovered Andrews on the ground bleeding. She was later rushed to the hospital in a car.
