Dameon Belgrave file expected to be resent to DPP today

The file on police shooting victim Dameon Belgrave is expected to be with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) by today after the DPP called for the file from the police yesterday, Crime Chief Seelall Persaud said.

The Chambers of the DPP had sent the file back to the police seeking clarifications.

Belgrave, 21, of Middle Street, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara, was fatally shot near the White Castle Fish Shop on Hadfield Street on October 6 by police during a chase. The police had been in hot pursuit of a car when a bullet hit Belgrave, who was in a pre-birthday celebration with friends.

Belgrave would have celebrated his 22nd birthday the day after his death.
The police first forwarded the results of their investigation to the Police Complaints Authority, which then forwarded its position to the DPP.
