The PPP should go back to its grass roots

Dear Editor,

Firstly, please allow me to openly acknowledge excellent customer care as exhibited by Mr Carl Stewart at Caribbean Airline’s check-in counter at CB International, Timehri. He is truly exemplary.

I have been following closely the meanderings of post-elections 2011 Guyana. Researching the MPs to enter Parliament shortly, one can hardly find comfort in the collective opposition’s line-up.

The PNC is bankrupt of ideas. But I suppose five years hence, we will have a few wanna-be politicians with their hearts in the right place.

The PPP boasts most of the dubious ones and its journey in Parliament will be no walk in the park.

They will have to earn their keep, while trying to keep their noses clean. They will be stalked by the PNC (APNU).

My view is also that Mr Jagdeo sabotaged the PPP and Donald Ramotar. Mr Jagdeo’s true colours came out during the PPP campaign. His tirades evidenced his style of leadership and were clearly an embarrassment to his party and its supporters.

In fact, there is more than a strong belief that he drove a lot of PPP votes to the AFC. On the other hand, African Guyanese, initially biased towards the AFC, nested with APNU based on ethnicity, something some others will vehemently deny.

If the PPP does not go back to its grass roots, it will be history by 2015-16.

Serious consideration should be given to appointing Navin Chandarpal as General Secretary of the party. Asking the current President to perform both functions will be too much.

The time has come for the sacred cows to be sent to pasture. They have outlived their usefulnes.

Yours faithfully,
M Persaud
