GTF Facebook initiative to be commended

Dear Editor,

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has recently launched its Competition Rules 2012-2013.Chapter 2 is headed ‘Eligibility‘; Chapter 3 ‘Anti-Doping and Medical‘; and Chapter 4 ‘Technical rules‘. It’s very informative reading and will be beneficial to the entire track and field fraternity of Guyana including the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG), athletics clubs and sports enthusiasts in general.

A KN report of Jan 10 says that Guyana now has a GTF page on Facebook. I must commend the founder Akeem Benjamin for his initiative and all the other personnel who may have contributed towards the progress of this fraternity.

The founder needs to partner with the AAG and the GOA in order to grow with such a project, and as the administrator, he also needs to have a monitoring system in place to control situations if necessary. He should let his forum page be a space where there are educational conversations and not allow it to become one where gross disrespect is showcased.

It is expected that some persons may very well be in total disagreement with me for saying that he should build a strong relationship with the AAG and the GOA, and it’s their god-given right to do so, but at the end of the day, these are the two bodies that govern track and field in Guyana and one cannot have a fruitful track career if one chooses to ignore them.

I wish for Guyana Track Family Facebook a fruitful outcome to this project.

Yours faithfully,
T Pemberton
