Dear Editor,

When the synthetic track at Leonora village is finally completed in 2012-2013, it will be a booster for West Coast Demerara (Region 3) since all track meets will be hosted there. Eventually the Linden meet will be phased out and shifted to Region 3, because I honestly don’t foresee any athlete competing on hard ground any more, and the athletes closer to Region 3 will have the advantage of using the track for training. It is also my expectation that all future National School Championships will be hosted there. I also understand from a source that floodlights will be erected around the synthetic track, and we could be looking at somewhere around ten thousand in terms of seating capacity. However, that is all unofficial.

I say to all the track and field athletes of Guyana who aspire to stardom – start saving towards transportation and gasolene.

Yours faithfully,
T Pemberton
