Dear Editor,

Recently the Upper Corentyne Chamber of Commerce and Mr Bankay were on CTV Channel 19 (a local television station in Corriverton) to promote a housing area at No 75 Springlands Garden, Corriverton. During the programme, which was impressive, I decided to visit the area with a view to purchasing a lot. However, what I discovered was very disappointing because the lots need massive developmental works (filling); the drains on the northern and southern side of the access way are too small to take the waste water which would come from the houses; the access road is far from complete; and no paals are available to determine the size of the lots.

Mr Bankay claimed that the 1st and 2nd certificates for transport for building had been issued for the development. If this is true then the office of the Mayor and Town Council of Corriverton and the Environmental Health Officer who recommended the 1st and 2nd certificate should be disciplined, since these certificates cannot be issued before all the works are completed. I have worked with the Housing Ministry and I know of the procedure. The programme is misleading to the general public, and the Central Board of Health, which is responsible for the issuing of 1st and 2nd certificates, should send an officer immediately to look at the area and cancel the certificates in the interest of the public.

Yours faithfully,
Rajendra Persaud
